Sustainability

As the world’s global leader in building solutions, LafargeHolcim is reinventing how the world builds to make it greener, smarter and healthier for all. We want to help transform the way our industry works and encourage the whole construction sector to play its full part in addressing our planet’s biggest issues. As the global leader in the construction materials industry, we have both the opportunity and responsibility to make a positive difference.

In the United States, the LafargeHolcim family of low-carbon products and solutions ranges from a wide portfolio of low-carbon concrete, low-clinker cements, recycled aggregates and services that promote sustainability. As the largest cement manufacturer in the United States, LafargeHolcim is calling on architects, engineers, contractors and ready-mix producers to adopt more sustainable products in order to lower the industry’s carbon footprint.

Commitment to Net Zero

Recently, our company joined the net zero pledge with science-based targets. To achieve this ambitious goal, LafargeHolcim is taking a holistic approach–looking at all the ways we can decrease our carbon footprint and improve the world we live in–from harnessing renewable energy and alternative fuels, to carbon capture technology and innovating products with lower CO2levels.

Integrating renewable energy: leverage solar and wind renewable power at our plants to give back to the energy grid and lower our energy requirements Advancing CCUS technology: carbon capture, utilization and storage, or CCUS, is a critical step in our ability to lower our important emissions reduction technology that can be applied across the energy system. Innovating low-carbon products: In response to ever-increasing market demand for performance and sustainability, we offer a portfolio of blended cements and supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) as theEnvirocore™ Cements seriesand have introduced theECOPactlow-carbon concrete mixes. Measuring our impact: The growth in sustainable construction is driving demand for low-carbon building products that can transparently demonstrate a decrease in our environmental footprint. Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), like nutritional labels, detail the environmental impact of building materialsfrom cement to concrete.

Circular Economy

循环经济利益的商业、社会和the environment while simultaneously eliminating waste. Our vision starts with preserving natural resources by finding new uses for materials that would otherwise be discarded, and corproccessing them as alternative fuels, helping the company create more sustainable building products. If all US cement plants replaced just 33% of traditional fuels with alternative options, it would save enough energy to meet the needs of nearly 1.5 million American homes. We also look to putting old, used concrete and asphalt back into our mix. Today, we focus on our total impact on water resources in the communities where we operate, particularly in water-scarce areas. We optimize and prevent the use of fresh water as well as reduce the risk of depletion or pollution by measuring our operational water footprint, reducing freshwater withdrawal, assessing water risks, engaging with stakeholders on sharing water and providing more water to communities.

Community Engagement

At LafargeHolcim, we’re deeply committed to making a positive difference in the world and giving back to the communities in which we live and work—from operating in a socially responsible and environmentally sustainable manner; to tackling local challenges; to giving our hearts, minds, time and energy.

Our Partnerships

As a leader in building materials, we are conscious of the bigger picture and strive to ensure that we live up to the responsibilities that come with our presence in the US. We aim to demonstrate, with our actions and partnerships, how we are a responsible and ethical company, with sustainability as a core value.
